The purpose of the workshop is the help you understand composition technique through ‘the eye’ and techniques of depth of field, focussing, use of White Balance, ISO, lens lengths etc etc. It is aimed at beginners and those who need/want to brush up on technique.

The cost of each workshop is £75/person – excluding packed lunch. This covers all my time and help and a set of notes to supplement the day.

We will set off from Talybont on Usk at 9.00am and cover between 4 and 6 locations, depending on how we go. This is not a location bagging day, but they will be interesting locations. The pace of the day will be dictated by you.

The times/dates are from  5pm on Friday 15th to 12 noon on Tuesday 19th June 2011, four nights and 3 1/2  full days of photography in this utterly stunning location.

Our base will once again be High Trenhouse, about a mile outside Malham. See www.high-trenhouse.co.uk  . This will be the third time we will have used High Trenhouse – our last two stays were excellent – the meals were absolutely first class and the facilities perfect for our workshop. I know we will be very well looked after once again.

The Yorkshire Dales around Malham provide some fantastic photo opportunities. Apart from the obvious (Malham Cove, Janet’s Foss falls etc) there are many other excellent photo opportunities (and yes, there WILL be a solitary tree!).

The cost of the break is £630.00 (which compares very favourably indeed with other, similar workshops). This includes:  dinner, bed & breakfast, packed lunches, a set of ‘Nick Notes’  and all the tuition you need to really help you improve your work. All levels of skill and knowledge are catered for.  The cost does not include: travel to and from High Trenhouse, holiday insurance and bar/room phone bills.

The format of the break will be as follows: as much time as possible will be spent working locations, with group reviews of work done each evening. We will have our own room and projection facilities. A reasonable degree of fitness is required. We will not be yomping for miles but there will be some walking to the chosen locations.

The cost of the workshop will be £590.00 per person. This includes Bed and Breakfast and boat charges to and from the outer (or ‘off’ islands) and taxi to and from the St Mary’s airport to Mincarlo, our base – and, of course my guidance and help.

Please note it does NOT include travel to and from St Mary’s. Options are by helicopter from Penzance (£195 return), Skybus plane from Southampton, Bristol, Exeter, or Land’s End, or the Scillonian 3 passenger ferry from Penzance. Nor is insurance (holiday or camera gear) included.

You cannot fail to spot his stunning lo-fi photographic images of local scenes created with a pinhole camera at the gallery as well as on the Leigh Art Trail website.

The Winter Open 2011 is now on at White Wall Space in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex and I have two photographic prints featuring as part of the exhibition: Red Hut and 4.35pm both priced at £60.00 including frame.

The exhibition runs until 24th December 2011 and is the perfect venue for sourcing that unique gift for Christmas.

There is a superb collection of photography, artwork, mixed media and it’s the best collection of work by talented local creatives that I have seen in a long while.

The shells and shingle nestled on the beach with the hut supporting stilts awaiting the approach of high tide when the shells will get rearranged and the stilts will be worn away just a little more.

The event is arranged by The Guild of Essex Craftsmen – I became a member of this regional, reputable association earlier this year and this is the first show I will be doing with them.

So I am busy preparing new work for sale including greeting cards, mounted prints and low-cost framed images as well as canvases, bespoke framed prints and c-types. I will be taking orders if there is work that you like but prefer in a different format.

High up on the list of jobs are some new print racks that I am making to hold my work. I originally went down the road of sourcing vintage apple crates which I thought would look very rustic and also contrast well to the crisp white mounted images I would display in them. Alas, they are either too small or too big, so it’s down the bespoke route of sawing MDF to size and building my own racks.

I’ll try and post some images of said print racks in production if I get a chance.
